- From Japanese tradition, dating back to the XII century, the Kamishibai literally means:
"paper theatre". It's a technique based on images that are shown in a butaï (wooden theatre), with three doors. A kamishibai is composed of a set of numbered cards, that tell a story.
Each card depicts an episode of the narrative, the front for the illustration, the reverse contains the text to be narrated.
This form of representation helps children to concentrate and immerse themselves in the magical world of storytelling.
The adult can interrupt the narrative at any time by inserting the "mystery" card, represented by a question mark, to stimulate the imagination of the children, to help them interact.
