Gouache is a water-based paint which can be applied in a thick layer or diluted to create transparent effects. For paper and wood, it can be applied with a paintbrush, roller, stamp or finger and can be varnished after drying to protect the work. Cleans off hands and equipment with soapy water.

Quite thick paint so you don’t need to use much (except for use with rollers where you need to apply more often but that’s a bit the nature of rollers). Tested and approved by my 3-year-old child, with a roller, with a brush (especially the small wide one), with fingers. Not tested by diluting with water but it seems possible for use with a traditional brush with older children.
